I’m having a problem: I can receive but cannot send messages from my Ipaq 4350 thru my wireless network.

When I try to send or recieve mails with my Ipaq I get the following
error message "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile devices, make sure you
are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct then, try to
download messages again."

My accounts are configured properly. I’ve checked my POP3 and SMTP settings. Passwords, everything. All are correct and match those on my desktop, which works perfectly.

From what I read the newsgroup Microsoft.public.pocketpc, this is not an uncommon problem for those with Mobil 2003.

Can anyone help me with this? Anyone know a fix?

Tesgin

I found the sol'n to this problem, which I will post for others:

This is a PocketPC 2003 flaw.

There is a problem with sending email from PocketPCs with the PocketPC 2003 operating system.
The problem has to do with how ISP is set up. The PPC has a problem with certain mail servers. Some servers are configured in a way that it does not have SSL enabled, but the operating system thinks it does have it enabled. So you need to do a registry tweak that forces the registry to tell the operating system not to use SSL.

You will need to use a third party registry editor, such as “PHM Registry Editor” (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/download.asp) to make the following changes:

Note that the install does not work properly with some PPCs, so instead download the .cab file. Just put this in the PocketPC My Documents folder. Do an ActiveSync, and then click on the cab file from within the PPC File Explorer to install.

Follow these steps using with any registry editor software for Pocket PC:

Open the PHM Editor (Programs>>PHM Regedit)
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Inbox
Create a new DWORD value ForceOffSSL and give it a value of 1, Base=Decimal (tap Edit, and New DWORD Value).
Soft-reset device.

WARNING: This is not for the novice user. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall all of your applications, and in some case to hard reset your device. Modify the registry at your own risk.

I have the same or a similar problem. I can send email from my iPAQ 4150 but I cannot receive email - I get the same error message as previously posted.

I tried the suggested registry edit and did a soft reset. I even did a hard reset, did the registry edit again and then a soft reset. I still have the same problem. I have checked and rechecked my settings (my desktop sends and receives fine, with the same settings).

HP support doesn't seem to know what to do. Help??

I too have had this same problem with PocketPC 2003 (Windows Mobile 2003) ever since I received the IPAQ 5550. I had an IPAQ 3935 and PocketPC 2002 and it worked fine on the send AND receive. On the new software I can not download from my Cable Modems ISP server, but I CAN download from other POP3 servers. The registry hack did nothing to help. And as mentioned, HP was a total waste of time, even though they tried. The solution? I started using nPopW, a freeware email program. Much better in a lot of ways to the INBOX application. Still it seems incredible that the NEW hardware and NEW software is now LESS capable!!!
