Rom Upgrade to 2.14 (Pocket PC 2002).

I am having difficulties in upgrading an Ipaq to ROM version 2.14 (pocket Pc 2002).

Looking at the Ipaq the current versions are

Product Rev Level: 1.0
Rom Date: 08/29/01
Rom Version: 2.07.00 Eng
Os Version: 3.

On inserting into a Serial Cradle a connection is made using active sync 3.5. Then UpgradeUt.exe is run (1.06), select serial. The setup then verifies the current Ipaq versions and then displays the current ROM version that is installed on the Ipaq, then on selecting upgrade a backup of the current ROM is made to the PC successfully. When the actual upgrade is attempted the message "Preparing for upgrade" appears, you then see the upgrade status bar in the Ipaq for a split second then the unit switches off. The message on the Pc states update in progress this remains on 0% then the upgrade fails with Error 113 upgrade Error (communication) please push reset.

The same message is received when attempting to restore the ROM to version 1.69 that was saved prior to the upgrade to 2.07.00

If the upgrade reset is pressed and an attempt is made to re-run UpgradeUt the ROM flash starts immediately and ends with the same error as above.

I can remove/install apps to the Ipaq with no problems and I have tried to hold down the 5 way directional button while pressing soft reset (to get the parrot) and attempted a flash but the same error is received.

I have tested this on various Pcs with various O/S and get the same problem on each

Can you help ?

Hmm, strange. I had no problems in upgrading mine. All that i can think of is that the cradle is damaged in some way. Try cleaning up all the connectors on it, or try using another cradle. I have also heard that the rom version 2.07 is actually a beta version of pocket pc 2002 and has been known to damage some iPaq's, but im not 100% sure about that, and alough im not an expert, im guessing that it probally wouldnt cause the errors that you are getting. Do you have your power charger plugged into the cradle while trying to perform the upgrade? I believe that you have to have it conected while upgrading. Fraid thats all that I can think of! Mail me for help if you still cannot get it working and il do my best to help :)

Sorted :-) 2.07 did indeed turn out to be a beta rom with a bug that prevents re-flashing the fix is here
