I have a Ipaq 3630 and WinXp.
I connect the Ipaq by the serial port. When I start ActiveSync and do the detecting thing, my Ipaq turnes on and says something like "Connecting to Host" and after a few seconds it says "Retrying"... During that ActiveSync doesn't find anything! After searching it says that COM1,2,3 and USB are Avaliable, I should chack the cable... But I have chacked the cable several times, tried to connect it to other ports, I had ActiveSync 3.1, after that I installed ActiveSync 3.5, then tried to reinstall it (as Administrator too) - nothing worked.
What should I do?
Thanks

Relja,
I have the exact same set up and exact same problem. The same iPAQ works fine with the same cable on win2000 at work, but no amount of messing about can get it to work with XP at home. Let me know if you find anything that works.. :)

I saw a very similiar problem with Windows 2000. The problem turned out to ne that the IPAQ had a password set. Turn the password off on the iPaq and it should allow the first time connection to finish. The reason this was happening was because the password prompt was coming up behind the connection wizard and was not visible.

Have you updated the connection software for the iPaq. It can be downloaded from Compaq
here

I had similar problems. I downloaded Activesync 3.5 from the Microsoft website and once it has been installed, the activesyn was activated and my connection with PPC is up and running.

You may try the same.

I tried with ActiveSync 3.1, 3.5, tried reinstalling them, running in compatibility mode with win2000, win98, tried installing it in Administrator account...
Nothing...

Look for SP18327 at Compaq (HP) site... It forces ActiveSync to connect to iPAQ on COM1, it should work.

I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I remember reading something from Microsoft saying if you have an IPAQ with XP turn the IPAQ ON before you set it in the cradle and perform the sync. Also I got rid of Active sync 3.6 and use 3.5 in my opinion it seems to function better.

Just upgraded to WinXP -- I can connect with ActiveSync 3.6 on USB and even sync but get error: "Failed to start remote services
Critical communications services have failed to start. To correct this error, exit all applications and restart Windows." Tried numerous reinstalls without success. Everything works fine on WinME machine. Help!

Hi guys, I have exactly the same problem as Relja Arandjelovic and Compaq's helpdesk have not provided a solution.

At work I have Win NT and just can't connect my Ipaq using the Com port. At home I have Win ME and the Com also does not work. With USB it's OK.

I tried SP 18327 and downgrading to Active Sync 3.1 and still nothing.

Did anyone find a solution in the mean time?

Hi all,
I have a W2K Laptop trying to connect with iPAQ H3600, Microsoft ActiveSync 3.6 doesn't work with it.

After download SP18327 and exactly following the instructions of readme file, I have successed connect with iPAQ.

HOW TO USE:

1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive.
The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable
with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Entering "Space Bar" to confirm the unpacking of files creates a
new directory folder in the download directory. All files are
unpacked into this newly created directory.

3. Follow the instructions below for setup:
-Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and remove Microsoft Activesync.
-Reinstall Activesync from the CD provided with the Ipaq. At the Get Connected Screen,
Click on Cancel. You will get a message that "Your mobile device has not set up a
connection with this computer." Click OK.
-Execute CPQSETCOM.exe in the newly created directory from step 2
-Click OK to set COM1 in the registry keys.
-Restart Activesync and connect your iPAQ PocketPC to the SERIAL cable/cradle.

NOTE: If the COM port you are using is not COM1, under File and Connection Settings
of Activesync choose the appropriate COM port from the drop down menu.

Hello there, I have an Orange SPV and have been bugged by this problem for sometime now although have just fixed it. Are any of you by any chance running Zone Alarm? Ihave just disabled mine and it works fine, I am just trying the new update to see if that fixes it, even if you are running something other than Zone alarm (e.g. Norton, McAfee, Black Ice, etc etc) then give this a go..... simple but might help! :-))
