Hi.
I ordered a Ipaq h1910. I did quite a bit of research on installing Linux on it. One thing I'm not totally sure on is safty of it. i.e. am Ipretty much assured a safe restoration if I decide to (yes I know nothing is definate, I mean relative)
I'd also like to know, can I install Windows2002 on a MMC card instead of the build in RAM?

Also, kinda OT, can I install Windows 2003 on it even though it shipped with 2002?

Thanks.

It works on the H1910, I've read success stories. There are many howtos and distributions also. I need Linux for programming mainly...if only there was a Cygwin for PocketPC :(

you can download micrsoft`s free windows ce development tools They will build ce 3.0 programs
(I think the new ce os is based on 3.0 so it should work)

Theres also another option I do not have the manuals or links but its posible to configure linux (on desktop pc) gcc / binutis to output windows ce programs

I have not tryed it but I did look into it but im not verry good at linux it seems to be a complicated process

Well, I don't want to develop FOR the PocketPC. I want to develop desktop programs on the PocketPC. I got Python (my expertise) language on my Ipaq, so things are much better. thing is, I program Python for Linux...so it isn't as practical as it could be.

I see

For programing on your desktop I think the linux option is the best

for safety when your flashing the rom with linux it should just be same as flashing with a windows update from compaq/hp so only things you have to be carfull with is OS crashing and powercut`s

*recommend you close everything on the desktop pc before you start the flash including disable screensaver just to be on the safe side

if the flash dose mess up there are some companys offering rom restore services

hope I helped :)
