I have been unable to connect ipaq 3850 to my laptop. Error message reads "device not found" although USB is available and connection wizard sees it without using activesync. Laptop is running windows XP (home edition). Can anyone help.

Ihave an Ipaq and a pc with xp. I have the same problem. I have actually found some files called wcesetup that have lots of information I cant interpret. I initiated this problem when I was looking through microsoft otlook on the desktop querying it if I could install multiple calendars on the ipaq. An error message popped up and asked if I would install the update from microsoft to fix the problem. I did so . Activ sync now wont work. It states that I should reconnect and try again. I have tried many times. I have a usb connection.

I had a problem similar to what you're experiencing under Windows 2000. Windows detects a USB device, but is unable to install the correct drivers, even after uninstalling and reinstalling the ActiveSync software as recommended.
Try poking your stylus in the little hole on the bottom of your iPaq and then sitting it on the cradle again. Doing this soft reset solved the problem for me!

I had this problem for a while I found it best to do the following:

1. Dont leave ipaq pluged in while booting up and shuting down (locking screen can also cause a few problems)

2. Make sure there aren't any reminders waiting on your ipaq

4. disconnect ipaq and goto
start->settings->system->memory->Running Programs

and click stop all

3. When connecting ipaq look on the (ipaq) screen for the connecting window. i found I usally got connection if this window appeared when the pc was connecting. i.e. if they dont appear at the same times then youll get problems.

5. Finially if all the above dosnt work do a soft reset on ipaq

6. still got problems? Do a reset of pc

7. still not fixed go have a cigarette and try again later in a more relaxed state
(warning smoking kills so dont do it!)
