iPaq 3600 drops out in middle of sy

One of my users has an iPaq H3600, with the latest OS upgrade, and ActiveSync 3.5
In the middle of a sync, when it begins the Inbox, the sync will abruptly end, and ActiveSync will say the iPaq is "Not Connected." Reconnecting and soft-resetting does not seem to help.
