My palm is not hotsyncing. When I place it on the craddle, it gets charged but on pressing the hotsync button, the PC does not seem to recognize it as after sometime, this message appears on the palm screen:"The connection between your handheld and the desktop could not be established" I tried reinstalling the software as well as using a new cradle but both did not seem to work. Otherwise the palm is working fine. I ll appreciare the input.

Two possibilities:

1. The cradle isn't plugged into the computer, and/or the cradle isn't plugged in for power.

2. The software is looking for the cradle on the wrong port (COM2 instead of COM1 or vice versa).

If you use a wireless connection (wifi bluetooth or irda) let us know, but I assumed your using the serial port.

I have recently run into this exact same problem. I do not hotsync my Palm often, perhaps once or twice a month. Last successful sync was 4 April. Today, I attempted to sync and I am unable. PC does not react whatsoever, like cradle is not plugged into the USB port.

All hotsync connection settings appear to be correct. Has there been a recent software (vendor other than Palm) which may be conflicting with the Hotsync software?

At wits end!

No, I have recently tested this and all is well.

My guess is your ports are not configured properly, assuming everything is plugged in and ready to work.

This is interesting. I've recently had the same problem with my M515.

I usually synch daily at work and sometimes at home. On Apr 9, 2004 my cradle/cable hotsynch stopped working on both. I've determined that infrared hotsync still works.

I've soft reset and hard reset my M515 without any luck. I've also reinstalled the Palm software and still no luck. I even tried the connection check suggested by Palm (using the Terminal to check bytes being transferred from the cradle) and it showed that no bytes were being transferred.

I also have a hotsync usb cable that also doesn't work. I can charge my Palm, but I still can't hotsynch.

Infrared hotsynch is very very very slow...I need to get this fixed.

Well this is bugging me. I have a friend who is suffering from the same thing, but nothing seems to fix it.

In his case it does sync, but hangs at a point. I'm almost thinking it's time to reset the palm.

You haven't any system data on a expansion card that's missing or something like this?

Well I figured out the problem. Here it is from PalmOne:

http://www.palmone.com/us/support/m50XUSBcradle.html

Now, to fix it, you can follow one of the two procedures on this link:

http://www.palminfocenter.com/print.asp?ID=4911

I'm currently trying to fix it now and I'll send a note here if the fix works. Hope this helps.

ElectroStaticDischarge on a USB device...how clever. (rolls eyes) You'd figure they would have tested this a few times.

Glad to here you got this...I never use USB myself I either use the COM port or the WiFi to sync. The unit in question here also was reset to factory, which allowed it to sync again.

You know what the worst part is. It happened on my Palm which has the "newer" hotsynch cradle (It has an "H" on the bottom). According to Palm, this problem shouldn't happen with these newer hotsynch cradels :).

Regardless, I'm still a Palm fan. I've been a user for 5 years starting with the Palm 3xe then Palm 5 and currently Palm M515. Generally, they have great products, but from the looks of it, they screwed up with their M500 series. I might upgrade to their Tungsten series soon.

Well pah ... the page no longer exists so I'm not able to see you you solved your sync problem - would be so handy since I'm suddenly having the same problem! Would it be possible to enter the resolution here for me to find? I would be sooo grateful!

By a stroke of luck i cam into possesion of a brand new Tungsten T3 Palm. But just the palm, no software or cables... so i went online and found the chapest sync and charge cable i could find. (plus it had to be USB because my motherboard does not have serial). So i got the Fellowes Sync n' Go Cable from Best Buy. I am having similar issues like all of you where it will charge fine but when i go to sync it will not connect to the computer. I have the hotsync preference with the USB cable. When i researched on Palmone.com it says that it should have done a "Found new Hardware" (i have XP Pro) but this never happend, and when i try to Add new hardware it doens't show anything... If anyone knows of some driver that will force it to install or anything else i would greatly appriciate it :)
