I an unable to hotsync my m515 wiht my xp laptop. i get an error message "com1 is not available". it seems to be reading a serial port and not my usb, help

Down load the new version from Palm.com, but most likely you will have the same problem I had:

I have HP d530 w XP sp2 an it will only recognize my Palm Tc but not the M515. I put it on an older system, same os, patches etc, and it will see both -- HP d530ssf (won't work) Dell d530 ws works fine. Dell has USB 1.1, hp 2.0.

Most likely cause -- PALM, another way to make us upgrade to newer devices, that's why I no longer buy Palm products.

Write this one off as M515 meets the hammer.
