hot syc freezes on startup

Just recently when I press the hotsync button the icon appears on my monitor but nothing happens, it stays frozen and then I get a message on the palm that the communications are not happening. There must be communications through the port or the icon wouldn't appear, would it? What is the problem?

We are going to need more info. What Palm OS device do you have? What OS version is it? (both Palm and desktop). How old is the computer? And, are you using USB or Serial.
