I've just acquired my first PalmOS PDA, a Clie SL10. Since 1999, I've been using a Casio PV-200, a basic cheap weird-OS 2MB gizmo that does basic functions remarkably well. I've migrated all my contact lists and memos to the Clie, but I'm still carrying both PDAs because I can't get my datebook/calendar data into the Clie. I'd like to move the whole thing in, even though most of the events are past -- ranging from 1999 well into the future.
The Casio software can export in a bunch of formats, and I've already tried both convdb AND Yahoo.com's calendar, so far without success. Convdb always gives me a page-fault crash, and I've tried it on 4 different computers, from W3.1 to W98SE. I'm assuming I've got the convdb command-line format right: like
convdb -h1 data.txt
.
"-h 1" instead of "-h1" doesn't make any difference. Putting the filename in "" gives me a DOS- window error message ("Unable to create output file", I think) instead of the Windows page fault crash. The format line I've set up at the top of the data.txt file is
"%y%m%d %h%i %e%f %v"
if that helps (without the quotes), and the first two lines of data look like this:
19990925[tab][tab][tab] TISC work parties
19990928 1130 1200 CHIRO Linda Laufer 535-9999 700 B'hurst(The forum made the tabs disappear.)
I've also tried using Yahoo! Calendar as a go-between, but I don't have MS Outlook, so I have to edit the data into exactly the right format. Two of us have massaged it until it looks absolutely perfect, but Yahoo! still doesn't accept it. First line and two more lines of sample data looks like this:
"Subject","Start Date","Start Time","End Date","End Time","All day event","Description"
"TISC work parties","9/25/1999","","9/26/1999","","true",""
"CHIRO Linda Laufer 535-9999 700 B'hurst","9/28/1999","11:30 AM","","12:00 PM","false",""If anybody can correct any errors in formatting, or suggest any other way to get this data into the .dba format that Palm Desktop for Clie needs -- or suggest a different way to get my Clie to be a good datebook reminder -- please do.
Thanks for any help you can offer. If you folks can't help, I'm almost ready to type and cut-and-paste all the upcoming events, and just carry around the old ones as a text memo. Seems dumb, though.
Norm
