I've recently built a new machine with WinXP and I have the exact same syncing
problem as a number of posters here. There was a solution that a poster named Dan had put out a long time ago that looks to have worked with a number of people. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me.I've followed everything as outlined in that post - uninstalled and deleted any folders or registry entries relating to Sony
Handheld. Downloaded from the Sony website and installed Palm Desktop 4.0.1 along with the USB switcher (v1.1) and only after that did I plug in the USB cradle. I do see Sony PEG come up in Device Manager when I try to sync.Thing is, when I try to update the driver for Sony PEG by pointing to the USB_Driver folder and Sop1kUSB.inf, when I click on Open, on the next dialog box, where it should show the device all I see is a blank list. I can't select any device to install - I can't get any further than that. I've tried the Add New Hardware process too without success - after the same blank list, WinXP tells me that there is no hardware that it could find for it to install.
Trying to sync without having completed the process as outlined in that post gives me
that same error: '... serial port is in use by another application.'Have any of you guys heard of a similar situation? I was wondering if there is something wrong in my .inf file for some reason. It might help if I could compare the .inf file from someone who's gotten it to work with what I have. Any help is greatly appreciated - I really don't
want to buy another CLIE if I don't have to :-(Thanks in advance!

Somehow this resolved itself, not sure exactly how though... I did try to install the USB Switcher that's available as a separate download on the Sony support site - though I'm not sure how that would make a difference since the switcher that's part of the current download for Palm Desktop 4.0.1 does have version 1.1 already - and the standalone switcher install did tell me that I already have the most up to date version. It did take a couple of restarts before I did get to see the device, but hey, now it's working!
