Alyson, did you ever find a solution? I am having similar problems and was wondering you ever got yours to work?
I have a Toshiba Satellite running Win XP Pro. I am trying to connect a Palm VIIx via the Serial to USB connector. I loaded the Palm Desktop 4.0.1 software and downloaded the XP USB driver from Palm’s site and I still can’t get this thing to sync up. According to Palm’s directions the USB driver should load under PORTS in the Device Manager under COM & LPT as the PalmConnect USB Adapter, instead it just loads as a separate device in Device Manager as a Palm OS Handheld. Palm’s directions also state when loading the software to choose the Serial option not the USB. The USB port wants to use COM3. This happens to be the same port that the modem uses, and the only COM port available. ( I have tried to remove the modem and have XP reload it hoping to assign it a different COM port but no go ). The laptop has no physical serial port, only 3 USB ports, that is why I need to use this cradle. I have also uninstalled/reinstalled all software and the Palm device 3 times in an attempt to have it install properly to no avail. Any suggestions? TIA
