I've been attempting to install a Zip 100 as PPA3 onto an Aptiva running OS/2 V3. I've
tried everything .... got the right OS/2 downloads and tried literally 10's of times.
I'm doing something right, since the process works fine on my IBM laptop (also running
OS/2 V3).

On the laptop, immediately after adding the new drivers using the add drivers function I
reboot and get the "you need to run GENOAD" message", but the laptop does in fact
have an "F" drive that is shown as a removable. Running the scan under GENOAD
doesn't find it, but manually creating a config.oad using GENOAD works fine and the
drive is usable.

However, on the desktop, after adding the drivers and rebooting, there is a new drive (a
"K" drive) that is now visible under "Drives" but it's not a removable ... it thinks it's a
HardDrive. Attempting to scan using OAD hangs after either 45% or 96%. Rebooting
after creating config.oad manually yields a boot hang right after it tells me that it's
supporting the "K" drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .... or if you can get this to an IOMEGA OS/2 zip
install specialist, that would be wonderful ... (I'm very hard of hearing so phone support
with IOMEGA would be difficult).

Thanks, Steve Barber

Just out of curiosity, have you visited IBM's website for the Aptiva and seen if there are any issues with external Zip drives?
A suggestion would be to upgrade the desk-top's BIOS to the latest available version and see if they have a list of problems that it fixes.

Hope this helps.

PS - you could always REload OS/2 and hope for the best... B^P

I had a similar problem, with removable media you should have media in place, even if it has nothing on it. That is appropriately formated disk inserted in the drive. In installing OS/2 ver 4 fixpack 10, leaving the drive empty would cause problems if the drive was logicaly mapped between the hard disk and the CD-Rom. Something similar may be occurring on an installation of the version 3 software. It realy depends upon the order in which the drive is logicaly mapped at system load time. This can be dramaticaly different than the final drive mapping.
