Subject: Windows XP resource under eComStation

Comment: I need to have access to a resource that was shared by a Windows ME machine. ME was removed, and XP Pro was installed. My eCS box can not see the XP machine. I installed NetBuei on the XP machine, but there is no longer an "LM Announce" setting to set to "on". Both the XP machine and my eCS box belong to the same domain/workgroup. What else can I try? The other Win 95/98/Me/XP machines on the network can see the XP machine. Thank you

Reply: (edit)What happens when you type in "net view \\XPMACHINENAME" from an OS/2 command prompt? Any error messages?

Reply: (edit)I found this in another post. Hi! As you didn't tell if your are doing a local or a server logon, I'm assuming you are a local user. So have you checked NETBIOS NAMES LIST inside MPTS Network Adapter & Protocol Services? Most certainly you didn't have this server configured ... Another things to check: 1) if you're using TCP/IP, did you select NETBIOS over TCP/IP protocol? 2) if you did, does it use the same adapter as TCP/IP protocol(check the MPTS Adapter ... window)? After adding the server NETBIOS name (and IP address), go to an OS/2 window and enter: RFCADDR to dinamically update the NETBIOS NAME LIST; then try a NET VIEW command against you NT server.

Reply: (edit)Is there a "browse" service or something equivalent on your ecs and XP box.. I also noticed that there is a XP service called: "TCP/IP Netbios helper" Description is as follows: "Enables support for NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) service and NetBIOS name resolution." I wonder if MS replaced LM Announce with this. I found these two MSDN articles that might help you out: "http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q314366&" "http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q315267&" Good luck.

Reply: (edit)Also under XP, check the advanced property setting for TCPIP. On the WINS tab towards the bottom you have the choice of settings for TCPBeui.

Reply: (edit)Still no luck. I added my eCS box's name and IP to the LMHOSTS file on the XP box. The XP box can not see my eCS box. I can ping the XP box using: ping XPNAME, and I can ping the eCS box under XP using ping ECSNAME I am totally stuck :-)
