Subject: Win32 runtimes in OS/2 v3...

Comment: How would I step by step transfer what Windows NT 4.0 files to OS/2 Warp 3.0 HPFS (no service packs installed) to enable Win32 support in OS/2. I read a trick to do this somewhere on the net a few years ago. I was wondering if anyone knew how or remembers that site or something like it. I want to use MS native runtimes, not ODIN. ODIN requires a certain level of service pack and recommends Warp 4.0. I am poor student and I need stable system that runs on old laptop to keep life stable and secure. I will need to use palm desktop with palm pilot and CAMEDIA camera transfer utility. Those are the only two apps I will ever need Windows. The rest I can do in OS/2. Thank you, Page

Reply: (edit)I am also looking for BASIC compiler options for OS/2. QuickBasic 6.0/7.0/7.1 are they public domain? If not, is their a GNU or free BASIC compiler? ------------ Also... ------------
I am looking for a CRON that loads each time from config.sys (not startup folder) works in the background, does not get listed in task list, and is written for OS/2, REXX or EMX.
Is there such a CRON? --------------- One More... --------------- How do I cause OS/2 to close all files and reboot at the command line?

Reply: (edit)Negate the REXX option for CRON. I forgot, PM has to load before you can use REXX in Warp. Unless there is workaround.

Reply: (edit)WinNT files don't work in os/2. You can use win3.1 w32s files. For Palm Pilot I believe there are java utilities for this. What type of digital camera do you have? There are many supported. You need digital camera transfer software for os/2? Find the software needed for os/2 rather than I pprobabtrying to hack software from another OS. b

Reply: (edit)Thank you all Destiny, Digital Camera is an Olympus D-360L. I am trying to look myself for the simplest transfer utilility from the serial port. A DOS command line or OS/2 cmd utilility would be a blessing. But I am looking into 3rd party resources right now. I do not know what the standards of protocols among digital camera transfer. If I can't find a utility, I will write transfer utility. But I will need to know where I could find out the transfer protocols. Thank you again.

Reply: (edit)Found it, thanks. DCITU at filelibrary.com They have old version and beta version 16. New version 17 requires registration, although a free one is offered with 9600 limit transfer rate. Thank you Now, anyone know a good CRON for OS/2. Will be using CRON on kiosk machine to periodically reboot system and periodically display images on the screen.

Reply: (edit)Found a much better utility for camera transfer at http://www.lightner.net/lightner/bruce/photopc/msdos/ It is free, only 60k in size, and transfers at top 111k speed no aches or pains. No special setup or install. Just simply command line driven, one executable one file is all you need. The way all programs should be. Simple!
