what can i do with os/2?

i have M$ os/2 v1.31. what can i do with it? when was it released? would it be better than dos? i have pcdos 2000 on a 486, i'm thinking of replacing it with os/2. where can i find more info about this particular version of os/2? anyone?
I'd stick with pcdos. A link below on a previous post points to a good os2 history site.
