I'm having trouble with my WINDOWS 98. an error always shows up "Fatal Exception OE XXX in VXD"; and sometimes when i try to use any MSOffice 2000 functions i get "MSWORD.EXE" or "IEXPLORER" "caused Invalid page fault" when closing MSWORD or IEXPLORER and if I tried re-installing MSOffice again i get this message "MSIEXEC.EXE caused an invalid page fault". None of the Knowledge Base Solutions in Microsoft Support seems to work. When i checked my kernel drivers under system environment (Using the Microsoft System Information tool)i see that there are two INTEL manufactured drivers - the VFIXD.VXD and VRTWD.386 described as Compatibility VXD and Real-time Clock VXD, respectively. Does this affect my Operating system since i'm using an AMD processor? ...if yes, How do i remove them without damaging the integrity of my Windows 98?

MY System is :
AMD K62-500 Processor
EPOX MVP3-G2 Mother board
8.4 Seagate Hard Disk
TEAC 60X (540E) CD-rom Drive
128 MB Memmory
32 mb Nvidia Riva TNT2
Quadextreme 3D Soundcard
Operating System: Windows 98
Applications to be used: MSOFFICE 2000

rumour has it that you can copy entire office suite disk to your hard drive and then run the install from there. good luck

I was getting messages as follows: "An Exception OE has occurred at 0028:C00768F5 in VXD (ect)." While researching the problem, I read many such errors occur with AMD K6 processors like my own. The solution was often chilling down the chip. I replaced my processor fan and heat sink with one that cools better and installed a case fan. My temp is now around 110 -118F. I've been up and running for 3 consecutive days with no problem, where before, I could hardly boot up without crashing. (I tested this by popping open the case and directing a small desk fan at the processor for a day, before buying the real fans, at a total cost of $18.) Good luck.

When I start up my computer... it tells me "VXD file 1.4 - 1.2 expected" or something like that... I think it has to do with my gaming programs... but not sure... how do I fix it and what IS the problem?

i had problems with vxd errors on my last comp. i had a pIII running on an epox motherboard...the way i solved my problem was to get a mother board that had an intel chipset (Abit)...i am currently trying to fix a computer for a friend of mine. i built the comp about a year ago and havent had any problems with it until now...more vxd errors...but since this one has a AMD proc. i have to stay with the via chipset...ill try another fan...who knows maybe that will work...i hope
