OS: OS/2 Warp 4
CPU/Ram: AMDK6 200/32MB RAM
Comment:

After realizing that my Warp 3 installation diskettes have become corrupted over the years, I am attempting a Warp 4 install. The problem is, after formatting the partition, the installer throws the error, "an error occurred when the system tried to initiate swapping".

As it stands now, I have a single 4GB Maxtor IDE drive. The 2048MB consist of a DOS/WIN installation (primary partition), next is the Boot Manager, and finally the OS/2 installation (logical partition). The installer formats the drive just fine and begins to create the directory structure then stops with a "Swapping Error". I have REMed out the IBMIS506 drivers as they are apparently in conflict with my SiS chipset. I am using the DANIS506 drivers exclusively.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mark

Do you have the recommended amount of memory needed for Warp 4? You might need more for Warp 4 than Warp 3 needed.

Another thing is that there are probably updated intallation diskettes that include updates, patches, enhancements, etc.

I copied the following info from another posting in the OS2 section of computing.net. That posting was about a Warp 3 problem, but hopetully updated Warp 4 install diskettes are also available.

Thanks for the reply. I am using the updated installation disks. I was able to get past the swapping error by moving the boot manager to the first portion of the drive. Of course, this did require me to repartition my HDD.

Now, I am getting a crash after the installer asks me to remove the installation diskette and press enter (the first reboot during installation). I have coppied down the required DANIx drivers from my installation disk and modified the config.sys (the one on the HD, not the install disk). The only way I can keep it from crashing it to disable hardware detection. However, the installer reports TESTCFG.SYS is missing and I cannot continue.

Thanks,
Mark

It would probably be a good idea to copy the installation diskettes (I think there are 3 or 4 of them) and then modify the copies (substitute the DANI drivers, etc.). There is also a parameter that you need in the config.sys:

SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1

Basically, the above says to the installation program to copy the drivers & files from the floppies to the hard disk during installation. The alternative is to copy from the CD (or other diskettes) and those are not the updated files.

Read the Readme.ins on the install diskettes. There may be other readme files on them too. Check them out, sometimes there are some good hints.
