What sound cards have some of you seasoned OS/2ers had luck with. I have several different off brands (different chips) which just aren't detected or loaded. I have heard those with a crystal chip are the best but I have one of those that won't work as well. I have been trying a SB 16 which tries to load but I keep getting an error in the config.sys file. If anyone is having luck with any particuliar sound chip or card please let me know. Thanks ---Ed

If you have a look at the OS\2 setup routine there is a is a
multitude of soundcards supported. I've used SB16s, ESS 1868s and ESS 1866s.

If you tried to use one and it fails, there are bad entries within several INIs that cause the problem.
I've used:
SB 16PNP
SB 16 ISA
SB Live! PCIThere are SB Live! BETA drivers and if you search on the net for SB Live! and OS/2, you will find some info. Within those docs, you will find what entries you will need to remove. I believe www.os2voice.org has a newsletter article on this.
Good luck.
Peter

Currently, I'm using SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital PCI.
It work with two drivers:
- the one that can be downloaded from www.netlabs.org, from the multimedia section
- and the Universal Audio Driver, that is part of Software Choice.Iself work with the latter. I experienced that the card should have IRQ 10 or 11, and there is no possibility for interrupt sharing (with me, though driver does support it).
This card is a must-have one when working with VPC/2.
The Universal Audio Device Driver provides OS/2 support for the following audio cards:
* Sound Blaster Live!
* Cirrus Logic CS4281 chipset based audio cards
* Avance Logic ALS4000 chipset based audio cards
* C-Media CMI8738 chipset based audio cards
* Intel ICHx + SigmaTel STAC9721/23 chipset based audio cardsKeep up warp'ing! Jonas Buys
PS: Earlier I had SoundBlaster 16 ISA Value, but unfortunately, I couldn't get it working, though intense efforts :(

Thanks for the good tips. I did find my problem and was successful in getting a CMI8738 chipset to install correctly and it sounds good. The bios was set up for a plug n play OS. Once I turned this off the card installed normally. --Ed
