ref:SOLUTION FOR TVT AP ON WIN 98

Hi there folks

Here is a solution which I found to the same problem ( I hope some of you may find this useful)

If you have your old drivers of Cirrus Logic 5446 TVT AP Tuner for windows 95, simply install it on your win 98 and your TV tuner will work fine. This is what I did recently when I upgraded my o/s from win 95 to 98.( My tuner card is a combo card ie TV and Video adapter built in together on single PCI card. How ever I am not familiar with the stand alone cards if there are any in this case)

The old version of win 95 driver for 5446 video adapter should be installed which is "Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI ver 1.40" driver or ver 1.41 in some cases. While you can load the older version of TVT Ap software for the Tv to run it.

When I upgraded, the window 98 auto detected the video adapter and installed the newer version of driver already present in win 98, which was "Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI" --- BUT --- this doesnt let the the TVT AP software work and this is why you are having problem to run the TV on Win 98 O/S. In other words the driver which win 98 provides is incompatible with the TVT AT software. So the only way I got around this problem was to downgrade to the older version of the video adapter driver for 5446 as mentioned above.

Briefly this is how I did it

After you have installed the Win 98 it is assumed that the new driver from 98 has been installed which should be "Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI" you can check this out in your Control Panel -> Device manager -> System -> Display Adapter.


Finally when you arrive at the Display Adapter go to to the Driver update and select update option - when it RETURNS with THE prompt THAT search for the update driver has failed Or "Windows could not find an updated Driver for this device" by pass this sequence. You can do this by ignoring this message and selecting to install another driver from the option provided just below this message. at this point put TV installation CD and select "Cirrus Logic 5446 PCI ver 1.40" driver from the 5446 Folder to -> Win 95 or win 9X(as shown on my CD) And let it get installed.

Next install your TVT AP software ( ie for the TV tuner)
You are Now ready to go.

I hope this information will help all you folks dying to see your TV on the computer but cant part with the Win 98 O/s!

Meanwhile I am my self also curious to know and search if win 98 drivers has been written to work for the TVT AP tuner. But So far I am unable to find this information.

Has any one of you found it yet??? If so do let us know

your suggestion and comments in this effect is wellcome.

Followed by my message(No.55) of yesterday please note i have found the drivers for win 98&95 to let the TVT AP tuner work specially on win 98

I would like to upload it to this site so the people needing it can download for their use.
