I'm trying to run an old Qbasic program under OS/2 on a DOS Full Screen. The program is Gorilla.bas (it came with MS DOS 5.0). On my current AMD Athelon 1200 MHz / ASUS mobo system, it runs ridiculously slow. The screen only seems to update about once every 3 to 4 seconds. Funny thing, when I was trying to run it at the same time as my Gamatech Utilities was backing up the desktop, the gorilla game seemed to speed up, but not really to a totally acceptable level.
I took the game & ran it on older PC, a Pentium (1) 90 Mhz system & it ran better ("normally") on that system than on the Athelon 1200 Mhz system.
All the DOS settings were consistent on both systems.
Does anybody have any similar experiences? Does the Athelon do a worse job running OS/2 than a Pentium?
I'm willing to try playing with the settings, if anyone has any suggestions, but thus far nothing I've tried has resulted in acceptable performance.
In general, I have not had problems running DOS games on the Athelon system.
Thanks.
Wally
