Hello Group,
Has anyone heard of the company called Vmware? They make a software product that gives you the ability to run Windows 95, 98 and NT in a separate VM under Linux. Their site talks about the possibility of a version that will run under OS/2, but I could finds very little details about it.
While I don't really care for Windows, my work necessitates that I run windows applications and as a result I have multiple OS's on my system which of course with the Microsoft variety crash all the time. I have been eagerly watching the development of the ODIN project in hopes that this would soon become a reality. It would be great if we could run the apps that our employment requires in a VM under OS/2, so that when 98 crashes, it's no big deal, just close the windows and start again while OS/2 keeps right on humming.
It looks like Vmware can and is possibly willing to develop their product to run Windows in a VM under OS/2.
If this is of any interest I strongly urge you to send them an E-mail at feature-request@vmware.com telling them of your interest in a version of Vmware that supports OS/2 as the host operating system. I told them I would be willing to pay for ½ of the cost up front to show how interested I am in a version that runs under OS/2. Their web site can be found at www.vmware.com Also, if your interested please pass this information to other OS/2 news groups, users groups etc. If we bombard Vmware with E-mail's expressing our interest maybe they will give some hard thought to it.
Regards,Gordon
