I guess I should really bad about this, but about 2 months ago (before I ever found this web site) I threw out a bunch of old computer stuff that was sitting in my basement. These items included:

OS/2 Warp 3.0 (complete box disk set)
Compaq 486DX/2-50 w/ 350MB (yep it works)
CompuAdd 386sx-16 w/ 200MB (yep it works)
Quattro Pro 3.0
Visual REXX 2.0 (for OS/2)
Intel 80287 math coprocessor
40MB IDE drive
USR Courier HST 9600 external modem (broken I think)
Microsoft Windows 2.11
MS-DOS 5.0 setup
14" EGA monitor
Fahrenheit 1280 graphics card (ISA)
16 bit sound card for Windows 3.1
Linux 5 something or other
assorted IDE controllers & ribbon cables
486 mobo with VESA local bus.
Trident VESA graphics card
I can't remember the rest.

I really don't miss it. I was a LAN Admin with OS/2 1.2,1.3,2.0,2.1 and now I develop software. That stuff is OLD! Granted it might be interesting to try to revive an old piece of hardware, but you quickly realize how useless it is, no?

Now I wonder if somebody would have wanted that crap, but I think I did everyone a favor by geting rid of it. We need smart people to be innovators and inventors, learn how to program or get involved in some of the latest technologies. You'll end up with some valuable experience that could lead to a good job!

Unix has been around for decades now, and I've never learned it. Should go learn Linux or Unix, or how to load OS/2 with an EGA monitor? Just seems like an easy choice.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved OS/2 almost 10 years ago. It was a great OS when Win 3.x was the only other choice. NT 3.1 was the fattest pig I had ever seen when it hit the street, and OS/2 on a 486 with 32! meg RAM was a great machine.

I'm glad it's over. NT and W2K are based on OS/2 to some extent, and my skills are marketable.

Have fun.

Why throw it away? Bring it to your local thrift store and recycle it.

Yeah NO KIDDING..
but seriously, do you know how much that could have meant to a kid who needed a computer? One who is too poor to buy one?
Don't you think that would have been better than nothing?
Don't trash!
*SMACK!
!RECYCLE!

I repair out dated systems for donation to school aged children who need but can't afford one. Some of these kids have more potential than any of us (especially the unconsiderate ass) do, but they don't have the resources we do. It might have been trash to you but to a kid from a poor family who needed that report typed, needed info with no access to a library, that out dated equipment would have been a lifesaver. Or what about many of the colleges are now making pc a requirement. A kid from a poor family who is going to school on academic scholarships who is struggling with financing as it is doesn't care about speed or efficiency. They just want a computer so that they can make something of themselves.

Yeah, wow, I know this is an old thread, but I had to comment. When I was in high school, our computer class used to take old computers from a large networking company and refurbish the machines. We would donate them to children with cancer, or to children who's families couldn't afford a computer. We got so many nice letters from the children and their families, it was very well worth it.
