Comment: for the love of God, would someone tell me what AM I doing wrong. I got hold of warp v4. not sure wether it's a client or server. either wether it is connect or non-connect. I've speend three straight days trying to get @home cable working on it with no luck. installation is rather the longest for any operating system that I've ever install. And I've installed just about everything out there. But back to the problem. from all that I can gather networking is install fine, network card is configure and iniatialize, configure ip using the ip configuration notebook, but when I try to use the net nothing happens. I've even download freetcp, after configuring it crashes whenever a tcpip app starts. I've seen a post that says something about an "attach pack" use for converting non-connect os/2 to connect. Please someone enlightened me. I've never had a problem configuring TCP/IP like this. any suggestion is welcome.

Reply: (edit)Hi, please tell us something about your network-topologie. - Is there a switch/hub, i believe it's ethernet - isn't it. - You create a 'workgroup' like 'IBM Peer' - don't you? - You opened all rights to every user, you allowed the access to every 'drive' .... ?????? Please, some more information. Thomas

Reply: (edit)I'm not using my hub on this. I have a Linksys pci2 card installed on my machine(Athlon 600mghz,384MB ram, 8gig maxtor, 2 gig maxtor hard drive, 8xDVD/CDR/W.) I'm running Beos5 PE,DOS6.22/Win3.11, win98, win2kpro, NT4.0 Server,Redhat 7.0, qnx,Solaris 8, a mac emulator(basillik). with any one of these I can easily configure my network card and be surfing in less than two minutes. as oppose to os/2 warp v4. I'm not trying to connect to mini home lan, I'm assuming that I don't need to know network-topology, except that I need to configure TCP/IP. all I want to do is test os/2 and it's java capabilities on the net, by using my cable modem. now my question is how can I do that with warp v4? how can I tell if I have a non-connect version? and how can I connect for free without purchasing additional software? ps: @home is a cable ISP sevice. really fast downloads(1500 kb's sometimes)

Reply: (edit)Hi, if you use Warp4: everything is fine, there are no different versions "connect" /non-"connect" as with Warp V3. OK, if your card behaves like a real Ethernet-NIC you'll need the apropriate NDIS-Driver for OS/2. In this case, or when you use your hub or an ethernet-card to connect to your modem-card, the basic configuration should work (NDIS-driver + TCP/IP). A short "how-to" can be found here: http://www.sundialsystems.com/articles/cablemodem.html If your cablemodem-card does something special you'll need other drivers (i.e. PPP-over-Ethernet). good luck, chris

Reply: (edit)Ok, everythink is inside Warp4, there is a program called - tcpipcfg.exe - mpts.exe if you installed the tcp/ip pack, in most cases x:\mptn.. and a direct. x:\tcpip.. after all, there are the path .\tcpip\etc and ..\bin where are this prog located, see the readme files in there, see the files 'host' and so on and if you close to these other OS, you will finde the way to configure OS/2 Warp 4 Thomas

Reply: (edit)here is the situation everything is configure fine. the only doubt in my mind is the network card.(Linksys lnepci2) I don't think it's getting initialize. even though it loads without a hitch, when I try nslookup, ping, netstat, etc, I get an error message saying something about check nic or make sure there is a connection. usually when I start any instance of a tcp/ip apps(IE,Netscape) in any of the other os'es the pc link and the activity link on my cable modem just goes bezerk. but not with os/2. it's just like there is no nic card installed. I've also tried without any success, using several NE2000 compatible NDIS drivers(NS2000.OS2, NE2000WC.OS2, NE2000.OS2) none of them works. I'm hoping for someone who have successfully use a (Linksys lnepci2) nic card under os/2. or someone who is really into OS/2 networking to help me configure this card. I realize that I could get another nic for $15 that is supported under mpts. but no more slots available, and I do not want to go through this with any of the other os'es.

Reply: (edit)I finally figured out the problem. thanx to MS WFW3.11. I setup it to use my cable modem for internet. loaded just about the same real mode driver that I was loading for OS/2 which appear to me not to be working. initially I got nowhere fast with wfw. but as I carefully go over the tcp/ip settings, I realize that I did not enter a default Gateway. same as in OS/2. but in OS/2 it's call a "router" instead of gateway. I specify the default gateway bang!! WFW was up, dualboot back to OS/2 using the "boot" command . specify the default gateway there bang. finally I CAN rest now.
