Subject: OS/2 Warp on laptop
OS: OS/2 Warp 4
CPU/Ram: P4-1.8 / 256
Comment:
I have a Dell Inspiron 2650, it's a P4 1.8 with 256megs mem, 30gig HD. I want to install OS/2 Warp 4. I have the updated disks, but once I insert Disk #1, it won't get beyond that. I tried the disks on my desktop (P4 2.4), and I get past this point. Can anyone help?

There are three installation disks: installtion disk 0, disk 1, and disk 2.
In which one are you having the problem? And what happens at that point? Do you get an error message? Or does the system just hang? Also, how far does the installation proceed on that particular disk?

Secondly, in which partition of your huge hard drive are you attempting to install your OS/2 system?

If your hard disk and/or BIOS in your desktop are different from your laptop--which is probably the case, you will be able to install in one but not the other.

Please, report additional info.

I have had OS/2 running on a ThinkPad for some time now.

If you are installing to a recent Pentium or Celeron, and you have 512 MB RAM or more, you need a new kernel. Any kernel since March 2002 will do.

eComStation 1.1 already has this kernel, and will easily install on your notebook.

MCP 2 refresh may also have this kernel, but I'm not sure about that.

Good Luck

As Neil already wrote there is a problem with older kernel and P4 processors. Why not install from CD? All you have to do is to download a update package for the Warp4 Install CD (included are the latest driver + fixes), take a look: http://www.os2usr.org/w4bootcd.html
