Hi, I'm a newbie to OS/2 but have allways wanted to try it. I was thinking about loading OS/2 Warp 3 or 4 onto a old notebook. I've allready downloaded the disk images for OS/2 Version 1.30 but it's limited for me. Could someone detail the differences between OS/2 Warp 3 and 4, and does OS/2 Warp 4 include Windows 3.x support by default? (I don't think Warp 3 does). Any advice would be great, thanks.

OS/2 Warp 3 has basically two versions: one with the Windows 3.1 as part of it and one without but taking advantage of an existing Win3.1 installation already present on the hard drive.Dual boot is done via a dos session where you type ' boot /dos ' to get back to dos and ' cd os2 ' followed by ' boot /os2 'to get back to OS/2.I use the one without Win 3.1 and find it stable(Ihave my own Win 3.1 disks). When you wish to uninstall OS/2,use the osdelete program from the 3 service diskettes to avoid running into problems with the particular way OS/2 manages its files:it has a system with file attributes and these will not be deleted by any dos or Windows system and you will end up with a maze of problems even thinking the hard drive is defective. If you take into account these few hints you will have a good experience with OS/2.Unfortunately I have not used OS/2 Warp 4.Good luck.

Thanks, but I really need to know what the
differences between OS/2 Warp 3 and 4
are. Particularly I want to know if OS/2
Warp 4 has windows 3.x support built in
and what it's system requirements are.
Thanks.

As far as I know, IBM made OS/2 WARP 4 backward compatible with WARP 3 (to retain customer base)for hardware , all your programs running on WARP 3 and the service packs.A 486-33 8 Mo RAM is enough to run the OS but I am sure you have a better computer from the specs you show in your Post.Windows 3.1 is still fairly easy to find if this is what worries you most.Good luck.

Hi,
Check out this page for some of the differences between the different versions of OS/2:

Scroll down toward the bottom of the page to see the part about OS/2 Warp.
