Hello to all...

I'm trying to install OS/2Warp ver 3 on a CPQ PL2500. I've had no luck from Compaq with this, they've long since forgotten about ver3.

Basically. I have a PL2500 with a Smart-2/P Array controller with three drives hanging off it. I went through the manual portion of a smart start install , then made a modified verion of 'diskette 1' trying to add Compaq's cpqarray.add, cpqeide.add, and cpq53cx.add drivers, please see instructions below...

OS/2 Warp 3,Warp 3 Connect, and Warp 4 Server (including advanced)

1. Make a disk copy of diskette 1.
2. Delete all AHA* and AIC* drivers,
3. Remark the AHA* and AIC* drivers in config.sys on diskette 1.
4. Remark the driver IBM1S506.ADD
5. Copy CPQ53CX.ADD and CPQEIDE.ADD to diskette 1.
6. If you are using a Compaq array controller also copy CPQARRAY.ADD to disk 1
7. Edit the config.sys on disk 1. At the top insert the following:
Basedev=cpqarray.add (if array controller present)
Basedev=cpq53cx.add
Basedev=cpqeide.add

This process didn't work, i got a large, hex based error message on the screen when trying to process this...

Plan two, was to remove the Array controller and just install off of the onboard SCSI controller to one drive, using the IBM supplied diskettes and CD.

When i get to the install screen with this method, i get an error that 'fdisk has failed'.

I'm stuck, and I'm afraid I know almost nothing about OS/2.

If you have installed on Compaq servers before, of have any insight, thoughts, comments, etc, please email me at

Thanks.

G.

How big are the drives?

Exactly what I was thinking Hmmm...

ver3 had certain file limitations... which might warrent the use of DANIS drivers. Search on the net for it and you'll find plenty. That is the only way I can make it work on my 40 GB IDE drives...

There is something you will have to put in your config.sys at the top:

SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1

If you want to boot OS/2 from CD, here is something I found:

The drives are 4.3gb SCSI drives. Old style Compaq hot plug chassis. The drives themselves are Seagate Barracudas.

Shouldn't ver3 be able to deal with partioning 4.3gb drives?

What does that "setcopyfromfloppy=1" line do for me?

Thanks for the input.

G

setcopyfromfloppy=1 copies system drivers from the install floppies instead of the cdrom.
