Comment: Hello, I found OS/2 ver 2.0 in a store for $7.00 so I bought it and installed it on a spare 90 Meg hard drive I had. I have used DOS and w 3.1, 95 and NT for years but am new to OS/2. The installation went fine and now I would like to install a browser and drivers for my non-IDE CD-ROM and soundcard/interface card. I take it, from browsing some OS/2 sites that in order to use a browser and get CD-ROM support for this version I need to download some upgrades. I haven't been able to find a link for the patch I need. Can anyone point me to the right sites? Thanks, Doug

Reply: (edit)I'm afraid your $7.00 weren't wisely invested - OS/2 2.0 is way outdated and you'll have a hell of a time getting it to run on anything but vintage hardware (it came out in '92). AFAIK there is no support for it from IBM and I don't expect you to find any fixpacks on their sites - maybe you can find something on hobbes.nmsu.edu. Anyway, if you don't have any experience with OS/2, I assure you that you should at the very least get version 3.0 or higher - you simply won't have too much fun with the old version - zillions of installation problems, plus it's plainly not as feature-rich as the current version. You'll have great difficulty networking, as 2.0 comes with practically no networking support out of the box, and finding fixes to bring you up to par will be close to impossible. Sorry.
