I am a total newbie to OS2 warp. I have just installed V3.00. I am told I need to upgrade to at least FP30. How do I do this? Do I have to install FP1 to FP30 in sequence, or does FP30 contain all previous Fixpacks?
TIA
Bri

warp fixpaks are always contiguous, but it`s impossible to update all parts of the os at once. Tcpip, for example, has entirely separate updates, goodness knows why.
There are loads of sites that deal with installing fixpaks, but basically, crawl about on ibm`s ftp site (I think ftp.boulder.ibm.com), and download the many floppy images (bizarre nowadays) that comprise each fixpak. Equally oddly, Ibm only provides fixpaks as a single file to paid support customers, not for warp 3 anyway.
Get hold of the latest corrective service facility at the same time (a fancy name for fixpak installer) and a utility that allows you to install fixpaks from hard drive from hobbes, sfix is a good gui one, start the installer, and cross your fingers (not too much, os/2 is pretty stable)
Fixpak 40 is the latest and probably best intended for warp 3, but if you`re feeling adventurous sometime you can edit the syslevel files and apply fixpaks above 40 meant for warp server, though I had poor results with this. Sadly, many modern os/2 programs anyway require at least warp 4.

Hello,
OS/2 FixPaks are independent (you don't need FixPak 1 to install FixPak 30...).
The lastest fixpak include all previous fixpak.Regards,

Hello, I remember that I myself needed three months to figure out all the things about fixpaks. There are three ways to apply them:
1/ via diskettes, which I find the easiest
2/ via RSU, so the application downloads FPs and installs them
3/ via CID, but this is tricky is is not recommended for novice users, only for in-depth specialists.Check out these links:

Have a l0t of fUn!!!

Upgrading Warp 3 using the Utility diskettes:
Prepare the corrective diskettes set.
loaddskf xr_w040.1dk a: (Press Enter)
Copy loaddskf and all the images at the root of C and if you have a Windows system open a windowed dos session with the above line as the starting point.(This works also with OS/2 in this case).Make sure you have a formatted 1.44 Mo diskette in the drive and answer Y to create the diskette(s).Delete the image after it is transferred to diskette by loaddskf to avoid mixups.Diskette 1 is *.1dk and diskette 10 is *.adk.
Prepare the cs_144 .Open a windowed dos session:
cd os2
cd desktop (Check this path name)
cs_144 a:
This one will only work on the OS/2 system.Copy cs_144 on the desktop to make it easier.Delete cs_144 from C after diskette is created.
Installation of corrective diskettes on PCI or AGP bus computers only(If you have an old computer with an ISA bus,ISA is explained on the last diskette of the set,do not use the upgrade without reading about the ISA bus issue):
Start the computer with the diskettes utilty set(the set is created using the Create Utility Diskettes in the System Setup folder).Insert the cs_144 diskette in drive A.Type:
FPINST WARP3 (Press Enter)
Follow on screen instructions and be ready for a long wait on this diskette and diskette 1 because of the system scan.Do not interrupt the procedure(lasting about 2 hours for the whole set). For system other than the basic Warp 3 the fpinst may have a different option to get the procedure going. The upgrade works well with other languages than English but you end up with a bilingual system. For those wondering about why to upgrade:better HPFS support, large hard drive support,a lot of newer hadware supported. The sites you need for the update and references for reading.

Good luck.
