OS/2 HPFS Partition Problem

Comment:
I am running OS/2 and it has 2 partitions. The primary partition is the C: Drive and it is formatted FAT with 60 MB the drive is a total of 120 MB the other portion of the drive is formatted HPFS and this side stores all the part programs that control the machine that this computer is hooked up to. When I boot up the machine it tells me that there is a problem with the HPFS partition. When you get to OS/2 you cannot access the D: drive. So I have partition magic from power quest and I ran the rescue utility on a floppy to see if it would tell me if there were any problems on the partition and it did. The error that it told me was that the Number of sectors reported in the superblock disagrees with the number of sectors on the partition, denoting an invalid volume size. This machine has been running fine for some time and now does this. I have a few programs located in this drive that I cannot lose. If anybody has any answers as to what I can do I would greatly appreciate it.

Well first thing: don't run chkdsk over the partition. Use it only as a last resort - it tends to solidify existing problems. If it's really worth the time to you, get dfsee from http://hobbes.nmsu.edu. Make yourself clean boot disks and tackle the drive with dfsee. You're going to have to understand quite some documentation beforehand, though.
Summary: Actually, you _should_ use FDisk for partitioning. Do not use Partition Magic, as it tends to identify your partitions incorrectly and gives them a wrong partition type which OS/2 doesn't like (though...
