Hi All,
I am new to OS/2 and am attempting to modify my Disk 1 install diskette so the system will install on my 2GB HD. I have copied Disk 1 to my Windoze computer and have replaced the recommended files, but when I attempt to copy the modified files to a diskette it will not fit on a single disk. As an experiment I tried copying the files from disk 1 and then copying them back to diskette and lo and behold they will not fit in their original form either. What gives here? Are there any free utilities that I can use to copy this diskette so that it fits?
Also, in order to install OS/2 a large HD it has been suggested here and elsewhere that the IBM1S506.ADD, DASD16.DMD and IBMIDECD.FLT files be replaced with the updated versions on Disk 1. I replaced the first two, but I could not find IBMIDECD.FLT in the original diskette files. Is it possible that the file is missing or corrupt on the original diskette? Also, I was going to update the CONFIG.SYS file with the SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1 but there is no CONFIG.SYS file either.
I know these are probably dumb questions but ya don't know till ya ask!
The easiest way is probably to download whole updated disks. Yo'll find disk1 and disk2 at http://www.warpupdates.mynetcologne.de/english/ inst_diskettes.html#w4c. With a two GB disk you should not need the updated disks though. Try this out. Good luck!
Wonder if instead of deleting any files I could use a 2.88 floppy disk instead? I noticed that once the install progresses and the system calls for Disk 1 again and I use my modified disk, the install fails because the system says a file is missing. If I use my original Disk 1 the system will not boot. I am assuming that this is because the old disk loads the outdated drivers. The modified disk 1 worked great at the start of the install, fdisk etc. but it fails when it is called for again later in the install. Any further help appreciated.
I tried to use the Disk 1 from warpdoctor, but for some reason it did not work. I unzipped the file but it seems it needed to be de-compressed further. Can someone give me an idea as to what utility to use after it is unzipped? Thanks again, Carl
These are ZIPPED - WINIMAGES, double click the winimage file and in the right hand destination pane of Batch Assitant tick set of floppies, press OK and it will write to the floppy.............
I'm not having any luck extracting the Disk 1 for Warp 3 from Warpdoctor. Can someone possibly e-mail me the extracted image or possibly the contents of the modified disk? I tried Winimage but it doesn't seem to read the .DSK format that the image seems to be formatted in. Alternatively, is there another source for disk 1 from somewhere else on the web?
For Winimage do a Yahoo/Google search, and choose the one that mentions Borland or CompreXX 3, as it has the tools to make .dsk files and undo them. A .dsk image is made on a floppy that is 1.68mgb, I think I read. This program also has support for Linux files types of compression.
Too bad someone doesn't put up a torrent of eComStation so I can try it on my Via C3 motherboard. This board has given me problems before with compatiblity, with some Linux distros, as well as a hard disk menu program from SA Developement that has support for 256 operating systems and multiple users, that I really wanted to try, too.
Well if someone can help this newbie, I'd really like it. I never knew OS2 had so much to offer until I tried to install it on a friend's PC, which I haven't done yet. I'm off to see if warpupdates,mynetcologne...I saw mentioned here has updated-patched disks for OS2 Warp 3, either the Red or Blue box. What's the difference by the way?
