Subject: OS/2 cable modem |
Comment: I am running a multi-boot system with OS/2 Warp 3 as one of the systems. I have so far, gotten every one of my other OSes online with my cable modem by way of my networking through my ethernet card (the way you're supposed to). What I cannot seem to find is how to configure my network settings in OS/2. Like in Linux, Windows (control Panel, network), BeOS (Networking Module from the "control panel" there) and just enter all my settings. I cannot find anything like this in OS/2. I've been through the tutorial, etc. and can't find it. I feel really ignorant of what should be a basic knowledge of this OS, but I would like to get online with my cable modem in OS/2 as well. Yes, my network card (a Linksys card WITH OS/2 drivers) is supported. I just can't find or figure out how to tell the system WHAT my network configurations (IP, DNS, etc) are. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, CrasH

Reply: (edit)There's a long time since I used Warp 3 (I'm using warp 4.5 now) but, as far I can remenber the old warp 3 don't have a full TCP-IP implementation. Did you installed an updated version of MPTS? You can try to run the tcp-ip configuration program (TCPCFG.EXE) if it's installed it will do that you want.

Reply: (edit)Hi Is it possible to do DHCP on a cable modem with Warp 3.? Just Installed OS/Warp3 . On a AST 486 Powerexec Laptop. 8Meg Ram. An unopened package from the local thrift Store. Must say I'm impressed. !! Since 94 I can't see much improvement on the Desktop . Especially when you compare it to Linux. Mainly Better Browsers and Resource hungry code.

Reply: (edit)Thanks. TCPCFG.EXE I guess. I don't really need DHCP though; I have a static IP address and DNS and Gateways that never change either. I just need to be able to tell the system all this information so it can hopefully USE the network. I wouldn't mind upgrading to OS/2 Warp 4 or even 4.5 (didn't know it ever got that high...)

Reply: (edit)Hi, you definitely need MPTS, it provides the basic network-services and enables you to integrate your drivers for network-cards and bind protocols. As I remember there were 2 versions of warp 3: OS/2 Warp 3 and OS/2 Warp 3 Connect. Only the "connect"-version includes a fully functional MPTS. The "normal" version only includes the internet-acces option from the bonus-pak. This enables you to use tcp/ip on dial-up connections (modem), it does not support other local network-cards. -> you need MPTS (add-on, or warp 3 connect or warp 4.x) to install your drivers and tcp/ip. Then you can use tcpcfg to configure adresses, routes and services. bye/2, Chris

Reply: (edit)What is this about Warp 4.5? Is this done through service packs, or a new version purchased? Can it run Win32 programs? I would LOVE to go back to OS/2!!! Any news about connectivity with 2000 server? Thanks!
Dave
