Okay im a newbie to OS/2 so bare with me. Anyways I got this old laptop im trynig to configure and after finding out that my old old win3.1 disks were corrupted I recalled that a few years back I saw a copy of OS/2 sold at a yard sale so I picked it up. Its version 1.21. Anyhow since I knew OS/2 was a GUI based operating system and ran on slower laptops that it could probably fit the purpose of this laptop as well as windows 3.1 could. So i got through the install and everything loads. HPFS drivers and everything then it changes video modes and just hangs? When I was installing it asked me If I had any device driver disks and I tried putting in 2 disks that came with it. Driver disk 1 and Driver disk 2. But it complained that those were not the disks it was asking for. So I assumed that maybe these were manufacturer drivers that I didnt have. Also in the start up I accepted VGA as the display driver. This laptop has a 15 pin VGA adapter on the back for hooking it up to VGA monitors so i figured thats what it must be. Anyhow, again i got to that point and it just hangs with a black screen. I tried booting to a floppy to see if I could find any system files to edit. And found ini.rc but decided not to touch it since I am a newbie. I can't seem to figure out where it messes up besides that I did select it to isntall a ps/2 mouse that i dont yet haev to hook up to it. could this cause it? I also installed everythingi t asked me too HPFS, Command reference something, and command interface I believe it was. The specs of the laptop are the following:
Toshiba 1910cs
486(SX I believe) - 33Mhz
212 Mb Hard drive
1.44 floppy
4Mb Ram.
Standard Keyboard/video output ports
And again Im attemping to install OS/2 Version 1.21 If anyone could offer me any assistance then I would love the help. Or if someone could point me in the direction of Os/2 download site for updating versions that would also be neat or maybe a Dos 6.22 or windows 3.1 *free* download site (I know im pushing my luck saying windows on this board) But I really need a GUI OS to install on this and it has not CD-Rom for linux or windows 9x. I'd honestly like to install Os/2 on it because I have no experience with OS/2 yet. Please help a newbie in need :)

You may want to try FreeDOS. It's a free version of DOS availale of course for Free.
Pretty cool to a number of GUIs, Compilers
and other free stuff for it. The URL is
http://www.freedos.org/

Now as for Linux your talking about the popular or what I like to call fanatic's choice. Linux is available in a wide number of flavors. Hell, there are quite a few with full networking and stuff that fit on only a floppy. To get A better idea go check out
http://www.linux.org/ and goto distributions.

As far as OS/2 1.21, heh it ain't even year 1996 ready. I'm not saying anything but if you have IRC access go to efnet chat #os2warez and tell them WarpFarth sent you.
(gee they should be thrilled :)).

Ok, hope this more then helped. If not dude may I sugest chucking the laptop before it chucks your brain. :)
