My O2/2 computer crashed and now i get the above error. I don't want to lose the data that was previously stored on the hard drive. What should I do to correct this error.
Thanks

Do not try to "recover" your system. Chances are that the hdd is defective; also, a cbl may have become loose to the hdd. I work for a major comp corp, and it is not advised to ever run a sys cd. This can damage your sys internally, call your tech support.

Dropping your computer or harddrive can throw off the internal parts of the harddrive, and basically screw the whole thing up. When I used to build computers, if we ever dropped a harddrive, we'd just throw it away, since we just assumed they broke. HDs are very fragile... I assume you lost everything, and need to get a new HD.

It amazes me what apparently poor advice is being given here from so-called experts. If you get an "operating system not found" error you MAY have merely damaged the boot sector of your hard drive (which has the "operating system" that is being looked for but cannot be found) and the rest of your data may still be there.
The reply above "I assume you lost everything, and need to get a new HD." is not necessarily true. Not at all, in my opinion.
I recommend you investigate a utility (such as Norton disk doctor etc.) or a data recovery service if you feel it is worth paying (depends on what you have on your hard drive!).
For the disk repair utility software, You will need to boot your computer from a floppy disk or CD ROM, then (a) copy files that you need off of the hard drive (onto a floppy or etc...) and (b) run software to try to repair the problem on the hard drive.
I think it may be advisable to WATCH OUT FOR UNREPUTABLE DATA RECOVERY SERVICES!! The services charge a fee for looking at your hard drive even if they cannot recover any data ... seems like an unreputable one could easily collect $ for doing absolutely nothing.

ok i have seen this problem many times. what i did once was took the hard drive out, then installed it onto another of my computers as the slave drive. i ran an adavanced scandisk on the corrupt hard drive then put it back into the regular computer. it worked fine. if you recently installed a second hard drive also, make sure the one with the os is set to slave and the new one to master. (might wanna check if it is master anyhow)
