I have a small group of OS2 machines (inherited) that are running an application. I am trying to connect these to an NT Domain so that NT machines may share files with these machines. I am not familiar with OS2 and need some help...where would I start...I have the OS2 boxes connected to the network....have IPs, can ping, even telnet, but how do I connect from NT boxes back to the OS2 box?

you must input netbios protocol in os2 and netbui on nt
when os2 start you type on os2 command file
net start
net use z: \\"name server"\"share directory on nt"

have a look at http://de.os2.org and search for keywords: network win

What OS/2 do you use?
Warp 3: needs IAK, TCP/IP, and i believe fixpack 23 (or somethink)
Warp 4: comes with network support, run mpts or ntconfig from cd and wait ...(:--))))

After all:
important:
-use the same domainname: f.e: workgroup
Win comes along with that name, but OS/2 named it 'IBM Peer'
- use on OS/2 System 'netbios over TCP/IP' and mybe 'Netbios'

and last but not least: be cool and never give it up

Try checking out these URLs. I have just gone through the exercise of setting up Win95 and Warp4 on a peer-to-peer LAN using Win2K/NTFS as the file and print server.

http://www.flash.net/~roknrob/sea.htm

www.deltasys.org/peer.html

You can map resources on Warp4 using Network Resource Browser and save/read OS/2 long filenames on the Win2K server.

Thomas is exactly right. If you are running tcpip but are not running netbeui ( or netbios, I forget) over tcpip, you will never connect to the domain. Windows uses TCPBEUI (NetBeui over TCPIP) to run the Microsoft File and Print client, even thought it only says TCPIP in the window under protocol. They kinda lie. IBM however, gives you the break down of the components during installation. Sometimes I wish IBM would lie to me and tell me that they were working on OS/2 V5. Sniff.

Warp 4.5 is the new IBM convenience Pak. Definitely an improvement over W4, FP15.
That's the newest version, until IBM ships a refresh in 2002. Connects to W98, NT via file and print sharing protocol, otherwise known as NetBeui. Tcp/Ip connects to router, cable modem and works great.
