Comment:
I have an old scientific instrument whose software runs on OS2. I need a back-up computer to load OS2/warp ver4 and the instrument software programs, so I can run the instrument. Any suggestions on new or reconditioned computers I should look for to easily load and run these softwares.

Any help is appreciated.

I've installed OS2 Warp4 on several newer computers HP Brio,Compaq,Dell. All machines were above 400mhz.Only problem was very large drive on new Dell. The software we use did not require much disk space,so I just partitioned 2 or 3 partitions.I use sci doc for video.I was not to concerned about sound do to computer are for building automation system.

You can install OS/2 on very large IDE drives (40 gb +), but you will need to make modifications to your startup installation disks...

Look for my post (about 6-8 months ago) about installing to 40 gb drive with an AMD 800. There are numerous OS/2 howto articles floating on www.os2voice.org or www.os2ezine.com that discuss this.

If its just for test equipment an older pentium should be fine. Depending on the Sci software spec and should cost next to nothing too.

OS/2 can be fairly easily installed on
most late model computers and even most
of the IBM thinkpads.

IBM sells a CONVENIENCE PACK for installing
OS/2 and without the need to gather some
of the freely available updates needed for
installing os/2 on large drive machines.

However, CONVENIENCE PACK is expensive...
- I would be interested in sharing its
cost which is about $200

john
