Hello,

I am attempting to install OS/2 CP2 onto a new 160 GB hard drive (7200 rmp Seagate). So far, it has taken 3 hours to format 50% of the drive using the long format option. I assume it will take 6 hours total time to format. Is this normal? Why does it take so long? Can the time be reduced?

Many thanks,

Mark

I seem to recall having extremely long format times, so I switched which program did the formating. I can't remember which was reasonable & which was slow, but one program was Patition Magic and the other was the OS/2 FDISK (command line version, when booted from floppies or the installation disks). Since this is an old posting, hopefully the format has ended by now!!! Did you ever find anything useful?
