How do you install the OS/2 audio drivers for a motherboard that has the onboard audio interface on a VIA chipset (the VT82C686A chip with AC'97 audio)? I downloaded the VIA audio driver file, 68MU111B.EXE, and exploded it in a DOS session. Among other things it created an OS/2 subdirectory with OS/2 audio drivers and a help file in it. The help file refers to a PAS16 installation program?? I do not see the installation program anywhere in any of the directories resulting from 68MU111B.exe. How do you do it?

PAS is Pro Audio Spectrum. My guess is that you are going to have to download and install Pro Audio Spectrum drivers also.

The Pro Audio Spectrum drivers has been
included with all OS/2 releases since at
least VER 2.1. It is on the cd.

Thanks for both responses. I believe that you are both partially right.

After reading some more documentation, I believe that I should be able to install the VIA audio drivers, which I have, using the Multimedia Application Install program. And indeed, when I use that application and switch to my source directory for the VIA OS/2 audio drivers, it shows up as an audio adapter, seemingly ready to install. However, when I click the install button, the Multimedia Application install locks up (frozen video). I have to use Watchcat to kill it.

I tried installing the PAS 16 drivers from the OS/2 CDROM, but that didn't work (I uninstalled Multimedia first, then reinstalled it). I don't know why. Maybe the I/O, IRQ, etc switches are not correct.

Does anyone have experience with the Multimedia Application Install, installing VIA motherboard chipset audio drivers and/or installing PAS 16 drivers from the installation CD?

Thanks.

Hi there
Known problem. Move Multimedia Application
install window partly off the screen and installation will finish without problems.
