Hello All,
I would like to start off by saying I have an old old old computer if I can't do this on my 20GB but I would like to know if I can install on my 20GB.
I am having problems installing OS/2 v1.3 on my computer. I downloaded OS/2 1.3 Warp Server, and OS/2 1.2 from www.OldOS.org, and tried to make floppies. I couldn't find a bootsector, but then I found out that SysInstX would work. I tried the v1.2 SysInstX, but all it would say was that I had the wrong OS version. Then I tried 1.3 and it said this: "
The type of file system for the disk is FAT.
The Volume Serial Number is xxxx-xxxx
The system cannot find the
device or file specified."
Am I foolish for even trying this on a 486? I mean I have alot of old OS'es on my computer currently, include DOS, NT3, Win3.1, and many more, and I would like to put OS/2 in my OS collection.
Oh, and one more thing...SysInst2 says: "
System Installation detected an internal error(03).
Enter
"
Does this mean something?

OS/2 v1.3 is NOT a "Warp" version of OS/2. "Warp" designation began at v3.0
If you are using v1.2 or 1.3, you are using the 16bit Microsoft/IBM joint venture, which will only handle 2gb partitions like DOS. You'll have to use a different drive or partition it into 10 2.0 gb partitions.
And no, the machine is NOT too slow. Warp 4, the last version, can run on a 486.

I would like to know why the SysInstX problem is coming up and how to fix it. It's good to know the 2GB thing, and I do have about 3 or 4 drives with the 2GB. But my problem is: I don't have the OS2BOOT file for the installation floppy disk. It comes up a Disk Read Error when I boot with it and then it says I need to put in a system diskette. I don't have a system diskette; I downloaded it from OldOS.org, and want to install it. I NEED the OS2BOOT file, or a bootsector/bootfile combo. And about the Warp thing...according to the OldOS.org all versions of OS/2 are Warp, including 1.2 (OS/2 Warp 1.2 WKS).

Hi Again,
I found my problem out; my Presario 5700N won't boot any setup boot disk (I've tried Windows 2000, Windows NT 4, OS/2...)! I got it to run on my Presario 4850 and ProLinea 4/50 (the 486). But they both come up 'FDISK unsucessful'. I am copy/pasting the INSTALL.LOG file.
"
INSTALL.LOGInstalling Operating System/2.
Model = FC
Submodel = 01
No fixed disks are present.
"What's going on? I Need Help! I really want to play with OS/2 but can't find it anywhere else (for free)...and they only have 1.2 and 1.3 (really old). Is there any way to fix the above error?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

The 486 only has a 500MB hard drive! And the Presario 4850 is running NT4 so it has a 2GB limit too.
Andrew
