Hello everyone,
Even though it was not my intention to
actually start using OS/2 for day to day
stuff (thats what i've got Linux for), I
decided to give it a try, and install it.
I got a hold of and unopened copy of Warp 3
from my uncle and attempted the installation,
only to find FDISK freaking out about my hard
drive. I looked up my problem on the
internet, found it was a common one,
downloaded IDEDASD.EXE,and tried to update
Disk 1. The files didn't all fit, and after
deleting certain files that ibm.com said it
was safe to delete in order to make room, it
still didn't work.So I got a hold of Warp 4, and found the
exact same problem. I used IDEDASD.exe to
update my floppy (this time it fit), and
found that "OS/2 is unable to operate your
hard disk...". From reading posts on
computing.net and browsing ibm.com, it seems
that lots of people have trouble before they
update, but no one complains about it still
not working afterwords.I'm sorry if this question has been answered
before (I couldn't find it),
but what do I do now???I have two hard drives, the first one is an
8GB hard drive that I don't really use. The
second one is 30GB and that is strictly for
linux. I have one partition for root, one
partition for /home and one partition for
swap. The 8GB drive used to have Windows,
but now I just have a 2GB FAT16 partition
with DOS 6.22, that I want to install OS/2
over. For now, all I want is to get Warp 4
to install. I'll worry about sharing the
drive with Windows 95, Windows 3.1,
and MS-DOS 6.22 latter. (Thats what I
eventually want to do) The whole drive is
only 1027 cylinders, so everything in the
first 2GB is for sure below 1023. (Or is
it??? You tell me, is this my problem?
Is my drive really only 1027 cylinders?)My computer is home-grown (I built it
myself), and it has a Gigabyte motherboard,
its a 550MH K6-2, and I don't use SCSI.Thanks for any help you can give.
Joel

Joel, I have updated Warp 3 install disks I think. I can e-mail you them if you wish (if I can locate them of course).

there are correct updated install disks, i
would have to look for url. as for your
fat partition it was made by what ver of
fdisk. i find often partitions made by
windows don't end on a cylinder which gives
error messages, even with partition magic.
often the solution is to delete the
partition & let os/2 make it's own.
