Hi. I was reading "Emulating OS/2 on Win32, Part 1" messages but I have some problems installing my OS/2 Warp 3.0 distro in a Bochs 2.2.1 virtual machine (Windows XP as host machine, but I'll use it in a GNU/Linux too).
I've tried to update the installation diskettes using "ideasd" (September 16, 2003) and "danis506r173.zip" (Daniela's S506 ADD - Release 1.7.3) separatelly but they doesn't work.
The CD device is avaiable because I've used a Windows 98 boot diskette and I can see it using "DIR E: /w".
I think I'm updating boot the diskettes in the wrong way. Would somebody help me?
I've downloaded the "Warp 3, Red Replacement DISK1" from warpdoctor.org and updated the diskette.
Now Bochs exits whith an error message "[HD ] ata1-0: read verify issued to non-disk". The bochs.log file has some error lines.
May be I've bad configuration of the ATA ports? Anybody knows it?
The CD-ROM emulated port is configured as "ata1: enabled=1, ioaddr1=0x170, ioaddr2=0x370, irq=15" and the bochs.log file shows "IO write 0x0176 (00): not 1x1xxxxxb" just before the failure.
This is the first time that I've been at computing.net in a month. I was just browsing through the OS/2 forum when I saw this post. I was the one that posted the "Emulating OS/2 on Bochs Win32".
I'm assuming your doing this on Win32. What I did was that I used the OS/2 boot disk, disk 1 with CD drivers (I don't remember with you needed disk 2). I used the disk images and mounted them into the emulator (I did not make the actual floppies as the disk images are already in the 1.40MB format). You have to do a CD-ROM installation as XDF does not work in ANY emulator. Start the emulator (I'm assuming that the emulated hard-disk and CD-ROM drive are on the first ATA/IDE channel. If they are not, put both drives on the same channel). I used the actual CD-ROM (was too lazy to make an ISO image, but installed slowly because at the time, I was using a 8x reader), but an mounted ISO should work too. Start the emulator and run through the installation (Which should give me time to recollect the information of how I installed OS/2, it's been a while).
I forgot the other information too. I'm using the original disk images (no updates as this is running on an emulator). The emulated machine had a 512MB hard-disk image (At most, OS/2 Warp 3 could support up to 2GB of HD space) and 32MB's of RAM.
I didn't get the Warp running on Bochs so I decided to install it on a old Pentium II I have. It works now so I'll don't use Bochs to emulate OS/2. Thanks anyway.
