We need this driver urgently! Up until now (HP ScanJet 6200C) we've been using HP SCSISCAN for IBM ImagePlus/2, Version 1.10, dated in December 1996, in conjunction with AHA-2940UW SCSI card.

SCSISCAN is a trademark of Danmar Systems Inc. Does anybody know whether a newer version of this software exists, that would support HP 6300? We keep calling them, they seem to be in business, but do not answer our calls.

Any other software similar to this one, that would support HP 6300, ImagePlus, and SCSI connectivity? Any other scanner that supports OS/2 and ImagePlus?

Andy B., thanks for the tip, but the IBM's Techsupport site didn't work for us.

Thanks,

JJ

i wrote the following scanning info... maybe... 6 or 7 years ago....?
I guess... it has little relevance to your scanner...

I have used several HP scanners, with AHA2940; I use either Galleria scanner driver, and/or Impos scanner driver; these work with most scanning apps, with exception of Recognita.

in my experience, Danmar driver was VERY CPU-cycle hungry, I never used it for that reason.

sacnning.txt:
scanning

Scanning in OS/2.

we are often asked about scanning, here's some well tested advice:

best choice is an HP scanner running from (any) OS/2 supported SCSI card 2nd
choice: HP on a HP-(SCSI)-adapter (MUST be switchless card, OLD dip-switch
cards are NOT suported; the re-badged Visoneer PaperPort HP scanner is *NOT*
supported (proprietary inerface).

Every single package that scans in OS/2, scans with HP and possibly with
other scanners, BUT HP scanner is the only common denominator.

Galleria: quick and easy scanning, basic image editing, file format
conversion, thumbnail previews, drag&drop, screen capture, excellent image
print pre-processing, HP only.

CopyShop/2: excellent tool for scan2fax, scan2print, scan2file & more,
allows multi-page scans, fronts&backs, driver allows scanning under WinOS/2,
ver 2 added multitude of image enhancement tools, needs HP emulation (PCL5
preferred) for printing, HP only.

Impos/2: bit map pixel level image editing, supports quite a few scanners

UniteLite: personal imaging- hey. where is the SOFTWARE ? I bought and paid
for software, but all they give me is some TEMPLATES ! SOM in action, it's
so simple, it's brilliant, and so brilliant, 'cause it's so simple. Needs a
database, though. Maybe in ver 2?

ColorWorks with STI's plug-in (see below)

Applause/ReView/Twain for OS/2 from SolutionTechnology Inc:

ST's support scanning with quite a few scanners, please check their web site
for further details The Solution Technology web page:
http://www.gate.net/~stidev

Recognita: OCR

PMView - I think that now supports scanning as well

ScanTool (Imara): don't ask. DON'T BUY

Any OS/2 user with an HP scanner should have both Galleria and CopyShop/2.
Galleria, CopyShop/2, UniteLite and Impos/2 co-exist extremely well on Impos
1.2 driver, less well on Danmar driver (CPU cycle thief !). Recognita needs
it's own driver.

Of course, you can always try installing scanner's own DOS drivers and try
scanning in a DOS or WinOS2, Jerry recently got a very, very old Abaton
scanner. After installing the DOS device driver in a VDM, he has a perfectly
working scanner.

You might also want to give it at try with SANE; it's freely available at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/graphics/scan
Another Scanning solution provider is 'Computer für Menschen' (CFM); located at www.cfm.de. They have a demo version of their software at their site and claim to support the HP 6300.
I guess your best bet is to try STI and CFM's products and maybe contact them. Please post a followup so we can partake in your wisdom...
BTW: I don't know the app ImagePlus, can you tell me more?

Good luck

Many thanks guys for all the tips.

We've heard good things about the ImpOS/2 driver. We are going to contact its distributor (www.novastar.de), a German co.

We also know CFM and STI, but they are TWAIN or ISIS compliant drivers. We don't know whether ImagePlus is TWAIN compliant, but our application for sure is not. How to make it TWAIN compliant? This would be a long term solution for us. Right now we need a short term solution for HP 6300, or something similar, that would allow us to minimise changes.

We also know the Hobbes site. We found two pretty recent drivers there, but before we acquire HP 6300 demo, we'd like to hear from somebody that they support this model. I'm afraid, only the drivers created in the past 3-6 months would work, because HP 6300 is a new hardware, released is August/September.

ImagePlus is a scanning software that allows us not only to scan from within our application (no need to use any buttons on the scanner), but displays the image, allows the users to do some editing, etc. It is an interface between our application and the driver.

I'm interested in the HP6350 and noticed that CFM's Twain driver is supposed to support the 6300 and 6350. I downloaded the demo and found a simple scanning program with it. Try the demo and let us know if it works with your 6300. PMView works with Twain, so that's a couple programs you could try. PMView allows you to print to fax as well as printer, but its print function is slow.

What I'm hoping for is something that will work like CopyShop/2, which I use daily. I wish there was a program that would print PNM files from the command line, so I could use SANE and write my own REXX program to replace CopyShop/2.

Your best bet is probably the CFM TWAIN driver set, available from Indelible Blue. I have personally used this driver package for several years, though not with this scanner--although my current scanner just died, and I'm probably going to replace it with the HP 6300--and it is very professionally written, flexible, and easy to use. It is compatible with most TWAIN compatible imaging software, includes PMVIEW, and Embellish (a free download). Check my site at http://os2.about.com/msubgraph.htm for additional programs.
