Subject: How to install cd-rom?
OS: OS/2 Warp 3.0
CPU/Ram: Cyrix 32mb ram
Comment:

I had to install OS/2 by diskettes because the cd-rom could not be found. Now OS/2 is running, but I still cannot use my cd-rom. I am also missing the file mscdex.exe, I do have this file in my dos-folder, but that can't be loaded because it's no OS/2 executable.

Can I find a OS/2 version mscdex somewhere or can I do something else?

Thanks.

There is no such thing as mscdex for OS/2. All you need to find out which cdrom driver you need is to add all the .ADD drivers listed in the config.sys on diskette 1 (2nd diskette), put them in your C:\config.sys (if that's where OS/2 is installed), add a " /v" without the quotation marks after each of the BASEDEV=WhateverDriver.ADD lines and when you reboot, press ALT-F2 when you see the OS/2 in the upper left corner of the screen (immediately after the beep at the end of POST). Then you can see which of the drivers are loading or not. Also, you will need to have IBMIDECD.FLT in config.sys. @ a command line, "type view cmdref ibmidecd.flt", and you can see how to use it. Also, consult the cmdref for related files and you can read about all the other such device drivers and their command line switches. This will take some experimentation, but you will eventually find the correct driver, and switches to make it work. Also, you cannot have your cd/dvd drive open or loaded with a disk until OS/2 has booted. My DVD drive is a no-name, yet it takes the SONY31A.ADD, so don't expect the driver name to coincide with your drive's manufacturer. When you find the driver, you can modify the config.sys on diskette 1 with the correct basedev statement and swithches to be able to install from CD. You will also have to add a line to the config.sys on the diskette so OS/2 will correctly install the driver in the config.sys on your HDD. It is:
Set CopyFromFloppy=1
