I have a really big problem with installing OS/2 onto a new soyo laptop. (External CD in IDE and floppy on parallel port). On install frst disk is ok but then during secon I get the error can't operate HDD or FDD(page 166 user guide). I have tried another HDD with OS/2 already installed and can boot ok (I had to use danis506.add for the Hdd though. With this system running I still cant operate the FDD I get the error that the FDD is not ready. I think i need an alternative to the Ibm1flpy.add but can't find one. I have tried the user guide fix but it doesn't help. The Soyo documentation does say that this m/c should work with OS/2 V3.
Also any idea where I can get an audio driver for the Cyrix GXm integrated processor XpressAUDIO is the trademark name for the win drivers.I would be prepared to upgrade to a later version of OS/2 if I thought it would help.
Many thanks for any help that anyone can provide.

Try the hobbes os/2 archive, it has a lot of files and drivers/updates for all sorts of hardware the problem for accessing the floppy is that a dos machine uses the bios to access it and the bios knows it's on the parallel port. OS/2 overrides the bios for most hardware accesses and is therefore unable to access the floppy drive, it simply doesn't know that it is at the parallel port and doesn't look for it there too. 1st disk is booted with bios floppy access and therefor works, but then another floppy driver is loaded for the XDF format of the install floppies. Another version of the floppy device driver is definitely needed and I wonder if higher versions of OS2 don't have this problem.
TRY LOOKING AT HOBBES, maybe you'll find the solution there.Lots of luck with it, this is definitely a difficult problem.
