I really need some help with a problem I am having installing OS/2 Warp 3 on my Pentium 90, which has Win 3.11/DOS 6.22 currently installed. I have two diskettes and a CD for the OS, but after I get into Disk 1, the install stops, and I get a screen that says that `it' cannot find the drivers/CD-ROM device to continue. The CD-ROM drive is a Toshiba XM-5702B. I have some drivers which are supposed to work, and I copied them to Disk 1, per the instructions, but they still aren't working. What what I have read thus far, I think I may need to add some switches in the BASEDEV entry in Config.sys on Disk 1. However, I am not anywhere near knowledgable enough to figure out what switches I might need to add...so hopefully somebody can help!!

Thats exactly right - you have to add this entry in your config.sys, copy the driver file on the same disk where your config.sys is located, afaik this entry should be the first in your config.sys, but for that you must make your own experience .....

Hi Roger,

i found someentrys in the i-net about your CD-Rom, but please post me your actual config.sys. So
it's maight be possible to help you.

Mine is like that:
IFS=F:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:2048 /CRECL:4 /AUTOCHECK:+C+D+F+G+H+IJK
REM IFS=F:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:2048 /CRECL:4 /AUTOCHECK:+C+E+D+F+G+H
REM IFS=E:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:64 /CRECL:4 /AUTOCHECK:DEFG
PROTSHELL=F:\OS2\PMSHELL.exe
SET USER_INI=F:\OS2\OS2.INI
SET SYSTEM_INI=F:\OS2\OS2SYS.INI
SET OS2_SHELL=F:\OS2\CMD.exe
...
DISKCACHE=2048,32,AC:+C+F
MEMMAN=SWAP,PROTECT
SWAPPATH=I:\SWAP_F 2048 2048
SET TMP=D:\TMP

RUN=F:\OS2\SYSTEM\HYBERSET.exe
BASEDEV=IBMIDECD.FLT
REM DEVICE=F:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
DEVICE=F:\OS2\BOOT\JJSCDROM.DMD /FC+ /FX+ /FM+
IFS=F:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q
SET EPMPATH=F:\OS2\APPS;I:\opendoc\BIN;
PROTECTONLY=NO

.....

Some time ago i had a TEAC CD-Rom, so my config.sys starts with that:
BASEDEV=TEACCD1.ADD /P:230 /T:1 /V
IFS=E:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:1024 /CRECL:4 /AUTOCHECK:+C+D+E+F+G

but as i said: it was a time who is gone .....

Hi Thomas,

Thanx for the quick replies. Below is the current config.sys file from my DOS/Win 3.11 system. The CD-ROM works fine under it's configuration. I also have a Soundblaster 16 Sound card, which I believe sometimes has an effect on CD drives. I hope you can figure out what I need to put on the Diskette 1 Config.sys for OS/2, so I can install it, and get it going. Looking forward to hearing from you...

Roger

Hi Roger,

That 'Lion' maschine seams to be your CD-Rom - doesn't it?

> Device = C:\LION\LION200A.SYS /D:LION001 /M:S /P:1F0s /I:14 /V

Than /P:1F0s must be the I/O-address and /I:14 is the interrupt?

Have a look at your os/2 driver with a hex-editor, search for entries (at most at the end-of-file) like /P: or /V, so it gives you hints about the possible switches from your driver, try them out like the line in my config.sys and describe what happend

I'm installing OS2 version 4 on a micron system with the VERY SAME CD ROM drive. This drive is revolutionary in that it will read the CD surface as it is spinning up. As a result, the OS2 installer gets data before the drive is 'ready'. It doesn't like this. It can read the directory, but not the data from the files.
My advise is 1) commit suicide. 2) If that fails, use the MSDOS prompt XDCOPY command on another operating system to copy all the disk image files in \DISKIMGS\OS2\35\ to about 100 floppy disks. This is slow, painful, thrashes a Pentium 3 down to a bitter crawl, and makes me reconsider option 1. Each diskette takes about 15 minutes. I'll be a another day copying to get all 46 File Disks. I've done the 40 installation disks and the 5 windows and 1 printer disk.
A better way is to find an old IDE CD ROM drive that OS2 will like better. I'm sorry I don't have that option.
I HAVE gotten the install to work off of floppies, but it's a real pain to install.

Hope this helps... Rob
