Comment: I'm searching for a NEW PC where OS/2 installation has been officially, or even by yourself, tested. I have to replace and old PC with a critical OS/2 application, but I cannot find a PC manufacturer, IBM included, that lists OS/2 in its datasheets. If you are afraid this could be advertising, please answer me in private. I need help...

Reply: (edit) Actually almost all desktops can have OS/2 installed in them. The only issues would be supported sound cards.Almost all newer video cards are supported, most every NIC card, etc. I have been building machines for the last several years some of which are OS/2 boxes. I usually check out the hardware by using a hard drive that has OS/2 on it.That includes my latest box with an AMD 1.2Ghz processor in it

Reply: (edit)Don, thank you for your answer. I successfully installed OS/2 Warp 4.0 on a lot of PCs, but the last one was one year ago. I see I can use several graphics cards, video cards, CD drivers etc. Really, for old application I have to maintain, sound cards are not used. So, I just was worried about new chipsets. Are they masked by BIOS in a way compatible with OS/2? More, in the past I had some problems with CD and disk controller drivers...

Reply: (edit) In response about newer chipsets I've used boards with ALI,INTEL,VIA, and AMD chipsets and have had no problems except for USB usage. As for display I either use SCITECH Display Doctor (www.scitechsoft.com) as it supports most video cards and you don't have to change drivers when you change cards (true plug and play). Or an IBM version of this but it doesn't support as many resolutions but it still works great. As for BIOS mostly I've dealt with AMI or AWARD (now the same).

Reply: (edit)Don, thank you for your support. Really, I didn't know there is this Scitech general-pourpose video card driver. The supported cards list is very large. At the end, I successfully installed OS/2 Warp 4.0 on an Acer Veriton 7100 desktop, Pentium III 933MHz, with Intel 815 chipset, integrated video (Scitech driver) and ethernet. I had no need of audio, USB, and others. I had to use the IDEDASD.EXE fix to have access to complete 20GB disk. Thank you very much!!!!
