I have a hard drive from a circa 1993 OS/2 machine that I need to get data off to transfer to an XP machine. Two other particians on the drive have been transferred, but I can't read the system partician.

The system partition could be formatted with HPFS, which wont read XP out of the box. First check the partition type/file system with a tool like PartitionMagic. If its HPFS then use OS/2 to copy data to a FAT drive or install the pinball driver to access the partition with XP.
You may search on hobbes for this driver...
