I have an older pc - model GA-586VX with a 82430VX Pentium PCI-ISA BUS motherboard. 133MHz, 16MB Ram (upgrading to 64).
The user's manual is excelent and clear, but does not go any higher than a 133MHz processor. I want to put in at least a 233 or higher. Can I with this motherboard and what are the settings I would need? -or- do you know the web site for the company?
Thanks for any info...

Go to www.giga-byte.com then go to usa english page then to support then go to users manuals find discontinued then go to other 586 scroll down and you will find GA586VX. You will need adobe acrobat to read the manual. You should be able to save it also.
GOOD LUCK

OS/2 WILL SURVIVE

i am doing the same;upgrading to 233; we're
you able to find out board settings?
any help would be greatly appreciated./kim

I would like some help also, someone out there did send me some info on this matter saying you can use dimms in this board but I still can't get it to work with the the dimms.
when I use a 168pin 128 100mhz ram it only reads 1/3 of the ram. if I use 64mb ship its still only 1/3 of the chip. thats with the clip moved. If the clip is left there's nothing. Whoever, it was that gave me this info please get back to me on this as I would like to know if I am missing something.
Thanks.

Has anyone come up with the solution to Roberts problem? I have the same problem and still no solutions.
Thanks

I went to gigabyte site
http://www.giga-byte.com/support/mmxtable.htm
and according to the CPU Compatibility list, you can put an intel pentium mmx 266MHz if you have revision 3.35 - 3.37 motherboard. If you have a 3.30-3.34 revision board, the max is 166 MHz for intel. If you want to put an AMD Cpu in, then you need to again worry about your motherboard version.
GA-586VX 3.35~3.37 2.3 allows 200MMX max
and the motherboard version 3.30~3.34 2.2 is 166MHx maxI hope this helps.

Has a newer version of your manual, with information on the higher CPU's.

Yes too bad .. I bought this board cuz the seller said it could use my 233 PentI but he failed to mention it could only reach 166 .. so I had to buy another mb. The giga now uses a 200 Cyrix at 150
what a pain .. yes I have version 3.34

The K6-2 is a beautiful chip. It would never use a 1.5 multiplier, so if the board tells it to, it says, no, I'll use a 3.5 (and I dropped a K6-2 400 in where my P100 was (66 MHz * 1.5) and it came up nicely as 233). The chip also would never use a 2X multplier, so it jumps that to 6X ... now, that'll let you put in a 300, 333, 360, or 400 MHz chip. (P.S. Buy a kingston turbochip K6 or you'll burn it out in a few days ... the board doesn't get the voltage right)

I have successfully upgraded a GA-586VX from an Intel Pentium 133 MHz CPU to 183 MHz with a Cyrix 686 MX. The chip should be capable of 200 MHz with this board, but it is unstable, giving multiple errors. At 183 MHz the board is quite happy.
The DIP switch settings on p3-3 of the manual for SW1 seem to be incorrect. The settings I used were OFF ON OFF ON, giving 3 x 60 MHz.I also have run into the problem of the board not recognising extra RAM. I just swapped 32 MB of EDO for 64 MB of SD (PC133) and it can only find 16 MB. It is running veeerry slowly. Has anyone found a fix for this one yet??

I Upgraded from P100 (ver 1.04) TO P233 (ver 2.9). Now supports large drives(30gig) and lds120 drives.
Go to www.giga-byte.com

GO TO by model

Follow instructions on printout. It's pretty easy and it warns you if
ain't going work.Good luck cap10

I have a GB 586VX board, and am currently running a P200MMX. I have a K6-2/450 CPU that I wish to use on this board. The thing is that the chip requires 2.2V and my board manual says that the board only supports 2.8/3.52V. Just wondering how you guys got around that problem. Thanks.

I'm wondering if you can oveclock an Intel pentium 1 200 MHz cpu in a GA 586VX mb.
If you can how do you set the jumpers or do you have to do anything with the bios?
Thanx
