I have an EcomStation 1.1 PC networked to a Windows XP PC via a router. I've never had any problems with the network from the IBM side whether linked to XP, or previously to NT4. Yesterday, while I was using PDFMERGE, a program that concatenates PDF files, I discovered that the network was not seeing the XP machine. I tried to import some PDF files on that PC, bu the program would not allow me to change drives. At first I thought the program was hanging up the system, so I rebooted the Ecom PC. When I logged on to the network, everything seemed to work fine, but when I tried to access the other PC via a file manager, nothing was accessible. I later received an error message stating that at least one of my network connections had failed.
Digging deeper I looked at the network error log and found these two messages from earlier in the day:
NET3195: An NCB error occurred: NET1. The NCB is the data.
Cause: An unexpected network control block (NCB) error occurred on the session to the specified server. The server may have been started again, or a network problem may have occurred.
NET3101: The system ran out of a resource controlled by the MAXUSERS option.
Cause: The system required more of a resource than was available.
Action: Change the value of the listed resource in the IBMLAN.INI file to allow the system to access more of the resource.
I changed the MAXUSERS value from 5 to 10, but that made no difference. My suspicion is that something was corrupted, but I don't know how or what. A few days ago I installed SVISTA to try out some LINUX systems. I REM'ed the line pointing to SVISTA from my config.sys file, but that made no difference.
IBMLAN has an install utility still resident whereby I could overwrite the utilities with a "fresh" copy if that would help. Right now I would just like to know if there is a way around this problem before trying a fresh LAN install.
Thanks in advance.
