Comment: Hello all, Normally in Win 3.11, all we needed to do to back up a harddisk is to simply copy all the files on the harddisk into a new one, make it bootable using Dos boot disks. So the question now is, can we do the same for OS2 ? regards, Eugene

Reply: (edit)depends is the hardware all the same? os/2 does far more hardware detecting & setting than win 3.11. the best disk format is hpfs rather than fat. os/2 would need to be installed or format from boot disks. usually better to do normal install unless all your hardware is identical.

Reply: (edit)If you have a copying utility that copies the entire disk (MBR and all) it'll backup/clone okay otherwise you'll have to make it bootable via OS/2 system files, not DOS and then (x)copy everything over.

Reply: (edit)If you haven't made a set of utility diskettes, make them first. Than simply boot the system up using these diskettes, and run the BACKUP.EXE program located on the Diskette labeled Disk 3. The exact command line is backup c:\*.* x: /s where X is the drive letter you wish to store the backup on. This will give you a full system backup. One which you could restore the system from in the event of a hardware failure or system crash.
